James Platt is Of Counsel in the firm’s corporate and venture capital group, focusing on emerging growth companies. He serves as an outside legal advisor to a wide range of technology and services companies, helping clients strategize and manage a broad spectrum of legal needs—including equity and debt financing, capitalization, governance, compliance, licensing, commercial contracting, strategic M&A, and other transactional matters.
James has represented emerging growth companies, venture capital, angel, and other investors in hundreds of private financing transactions. He has guided dozens of companies as outside general counsel from formation through significant growth milestones and eventual exits and has advised both buy-side and sell-side in private company mergers and acquisitions.
James earned his J.D. from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he served as an associate at the University Growth Fund, one of the largest student-run venture capital firms in the nation. He holds a B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in Business Management from Brigham Young University.
James enjoys watching his 4 sons on the baseball diamond, fishing, and following collegiate sports.
