Michael Penley

Michael Penley is a partner whose practice focuses on representing private companies, private equity firms, and investors in mergers and acquisitions, licensing and strategic collaborations, fundraising, executive employment, and general corporate matters. His clients span a wide range of industries, including life sciences, biotechnology, software, cleantech, fintech, healthcare, and medical devices.

Michael brings a distinctive perspective to client counseling, having served not only as outside counsel but as a senior member of corporate management teams. He served as General Counsel of GreatCall, Inc. (acquired by Best Buy Health in 2018), as CEO of Runbuggy, Inc. (acquired by Oremar Automotive Group), and as CEO and General Counsel of Annai Systems Inc., a genomic data analysis technology startup. Prior to his in-house roles, Michael was a senior attorney at Cooley LLP in San Diego and began his legal career at Kilpatrick & Townsend LLP in Atlanta.

Michael graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time skiing, playing golf and spending time with his wife and three kids.
